Do I need a referral letter from my GP / another healthcare professional?

It is always preferable, but not essential, to have a referral letter. We do, however, accept self-referrals. Please note that some private medical insurers will only cover their members for our consultation fees if the patient has seen his/her GP and a referral letter is made available to the Consultant at the time of the consultation.

What do I need to do ahead of the appointment?

Where relevant, please ensure you have a referral letter from your GP and an authorisation code from your private medical insurer.

Please bring with you to the consultation your child’s “Red Book” (the Personal Held Child Health Record), other immunisation records and any relevant medical information. If you are coming for a growth-related problem, please bring with you any previous height and weight measurements, irrespective of where these were taken.

What happens on the day?

The hospital facility requires you to register on arrival. This registration process is independent of the registration process with Starlight Paediatrics. In order to save you time on the day, the latter can be done online ahead of the clinic appointment (see our bookings page). Otherwise, you can register with Starlight Paediatrics on the day.

Appointments with our consultants are for 30 minutes. Additional charges may apply if the consultation is extended well beyond the allocated time.

What’s your email address?

Emails addressed to the office (info@starlightpaediatrics.com) are checked during office hours only.

Our Consultants check their emails at various times in and outside clinic times. However, although they will do their best to respond to every email as soon as possible, sometimes they may not be able to deal with issues until the next working day. This should not be a substitute for a clinic consultation. If your child requires urgent medical attention, please do not rely on email as we may not be able to respond immediately.

Can you offer home visits and overseas consultations?

Yes, we can in exceptional circumstances and by special arrangement. However, these appointments may incur charges for travel, as well as the consultation and professional time spent away from the clinical service.

What if I want a vaccine which is given in one country but is not available in the UK?

Where possible, we will endeavour to source these for you through our hospital pharmacy.

What should I do in an emergency?

If your child needs urgent medical help or advice, but it is not a life-threatening situation, contact NHS 111 or your nearest Accident & Emergency Department. For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, call 999.

Can you help with travel vaccinations?

We recommend that you obtain advice on travel vaccines from “Travel Clinics”. Where it is possible for our pharmacy to source these, we can administer the vaccines in our clinic.

How can I contact you?

The best way is through our main office line on 0208 426 4514, Monday to Friday between 9.00am and 5.00pm. You can also book a remote consultation with our doctors in advance through our office.
